Andesite-basalt rovings offered by Kamenny Vek

assembling of basalt strands into roving

Andesite-basalt roving is used in different industries. It’s used for production of the following products:

  • rebars for concrete reinforcement and pultruded profiles
  • pipes and high-pressure vessels
  • geogrids
  • various types of fabrics

Basic technologies of andesite-basalt roving processing are the following

  • pultrusion,
  • filament winding,
  • weaving, multiaxial fabrics production.

Compatibility with various resins is assured by appropriate sizings.

Kamenny Vek offers two kinds of roving: direct roving and assembled roving.

Direct roving

Direct roving

Direct roving is a ready - to - sell continuous one-end strand produced in the drawing process and wound on bobbins with 200 mm or 160 mm internal diameter. The main advantage of direct roving is zero catenary and excellent appearance.

That is the reason why direct roving is used for production of fabrics and geogrids, as well for production of pultruded profiles and rebars.

The very popular product for many applications in composites industry is the direct roving of 2400 tex, which is a standard product for most of fiberglass manufacturers. None of other manufacturers of basalt fiber in the world can produce direct roving of such high tex.  Although our high-tech production allows us to supply our customers with direct roving up to 2400 tex, for some applications customers may need roving with higher tex. In this case we can offer assembled roving that can be produced with up to 9600 tex.

There are applications where it's impossible to use direct roving bobbins. For example, some customers can’t use direct roving, because they need roving wound on bobbins with external pull. These products can be produced in form of assembled roving.

Assembled roving

Regular assembled roving

Assembled roving consists of several single-end strands joined together without twisting on special assembling machine. Through continuous improvement of the traditional assembly process in our factories, we have been able to produce assembled roving with very low catenary. This is why our assemled roving can be used in most applications where direct roving is traditionally used.

This type of roving is an ideal product for applications where small monofilament diameter along with high tex is required or if customers need bobbins with external pull.

Assembled roving is supplied on bobbins with internal pull (tubeless, 76 mm internal diameter) or external pull (bobbins are wound on a tube with internal diameter of 76 mm and length of 270 mm).

It's mainly recommended for filament winding, pultrusion, processing into woven fabrics, UD tapes, multiaxial fabrics, prepregs and other products.

The main applications are high pressure vessels, CNG cylinders, pipes, boat building, pultruded profiles, concrete reinforcing bars, wind mill blades, fabrics for different applications.
