Products - roving

Basalt roving is used in different industries. It’s used for production of the following products:

  • rebar for concrete reinforcement
  • profiles and pipes
  • high-pressure vessels
  • geogrids
  • various types of fabrics

Basic technologies of basalt roving processing are the following

  • pultrusion,
  • filament winding,
  • weaving,
  • multiaxial fabrics production.

Compatibility with various resins is assured by appropriate sizings.

Kamenny Vek offers several kinds of roving: direct roving, regular assembled roving and high-performance assembled roving

Direct roving

Direct roving

Direct roving is a ready - to - sell continuous one-end strand produced in the drawing process and wound on bobbins with 200 mm internal diameter.The main advantage of direct roving is zero catenary and excellent appearance.


That is the reason why direct roving is used for production of fabrics and geogrids, as well for production of pultruded profiles and rebar. For other applications customers may need roving with much higher tex, comparing to direct roving, such as 2400 or 4800 tex.


Some customers can’t use direct roving, because they need roving wound on bobbins with external unwinding. These products can be produced in form of assembled roving.


Regular assembled roving

Regular assembled roving

Regular assembled roving consists of several single-end strands joined together without twisting on special assembling machine.


It is supplied on bobbins with internal unwinding (tubeless, 76 mm internal diameter) or external unwinding (bobbins are wound on a tube with internal diameter of 76 mm and length of 270 mm).






 



High performance assembled roving

High performance assembled roving

High performance assembled roving is assembled roving, produced by a special technology that provides lower catenary, compared to regular assembled roving. Moreover, during the production process high performance assembled roving is impregnated with a special gluing that provides shape of tape to roving and makes it resemble to direct roving in appearance and consumer properties.


High performance assembled roving is produced in a form of a bobbin of external and internal unwinding that are standard for composite industry:


  • Bobbins with external unwinding, on a tube with internal diameter of 76 mm, which are usually used by all the manufacturers of carbon fiber,
  • Bobbins with internal unwinding and internal diameter of 200 mm. This type of bobbins is used by all E-glass manufacturers around the world for direct roving production.


High performance assembled roving is mainly recommended to customers engaged in pultrusion process where requirements regarding catenary are critical. Roving with reduced catenary makes it possible to realize 100% of high mechanical properties of Basfiber® and completely eliminate the issue with loops formation during processing.


Moreover, high performance assembled roving is the best product for multiaxial fabrics production when customers need bobbins with external unwinding.
